Young Poland: An Arts and Crafts Movement at the William Morris Gallery, London explores the decorative arts and architecture of Young Poland – a cultural movement that flourished in response to Poland’s invasion and occupation by foreign powers, between 1890 and 1918. This is the first time an exhibition has been devoted to the movement. Works on show include paintings, intricate textiles and delicate paper cuttings, Christmas decorations and furniture, revealing how the political and social climate propelled the movement and reflecting its stylistic and philosophical affinities with the Arts & Crafts movement and, in particular, the work of William Morris and John Ruskin. Young Poland is at the William Morris Gallery, Walthamstow, until January 30.
