FINISHED PAINTING
Tranquil Pool, Skelwith Bridge, the Lake District, gouache and Unison Colour soft pastel on Canson Moulin du Roy 140lb (300gsm) 100% cotton watercolour paper, 20322in (51356cm).
After removing the masking fluid, I focused on the depth in the pool and the surface reflection with more transparent washes of burnt sienna and burnt umber, adding yellow to both mixes to brighten them. I then softened some of the hard edges left by the masking fluid, particularly in the reflections. To create tints, I mixed permanent white gouache with colours to a consistency of single cream and also mixed more opaque colours to sharpen edges, particularly in the rocks. Final marks made with pastel emphasised texture
