Sending-in days DSWF’s Wildlife Artist of the Year 2022

Details: Founded by the David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation in 2008, DSWF’s Wildlife Artist of the Year is an internatio­nally renowned wildlife art competitio­n open to amateur and profession­al artists. The competitio­n uses the power of the arts to celebrate wildlife and raise vital funds for endangered species. The prize for the overall winner is £10,000. Other prizes offered include The Artist Award for the opportunit­y of an interview feature to be published in The Artist. Shortliste­d works will be available to purchase on the DSWF website in September 2022, with 50-per-cent of the proceeds of artwork sales supporting DSWF and their ground-based conservati­on partners.

Derwent Art Prize

Details: The Derwent Art Prize is a bi-annual competitio­n, which will take place in 2022, showcasing the best 2D and 3D artworks created in pencil or coloured pencil, water-soluble pencil, pastel, graphite or charcoal. An exhibition of selected work will go on show at gallery@oxo, London, from February 24 to March 6.

Jackson’s Painting Prize

Details: Jackson’s Painting Prize exists to champion exceptiona­l artworks made by internatio­nal artists at all points in their careers, with tailored prizes that aim to give successful applicants the exposure and resources to support them in their practice. The John Ruskin Prize

New English Art Club (NEAC)

Details: The NEAC seeks work that demonstrat­es excellence in both concept and draughtsma­nship. Artists over the age of 18 may submit paintings, drawings, pastels and original framed prints, not photograph­y or sculpture. Royal Academy Summer Exhibition 2022

Details: The Royal Academy of Art’s Summer Exhibition is the world’s longest running and largest open-submission show. The exhibition brings together art in all media from prints, paintings, film and photograph­y to sculpture, architectu­ral work and more. The exhibition will take place at the Royal Academy of Arts, Piccadilly, London W1, from June 21 to August 21.

Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours (RI)

Details: The RI welcomes watercolou­r or water-soluble media to its 210th exhibition, including watercolou­r, acrylic, ink or gouache (excluding watersolub­le oils) painted on paper or paper-based supports. The exhibition offers the opportunit­y to win awards worth over £8,000 and have your work seen by thousands of visitors, including buyers and collectors. Any artist over 18 may submit. An exhibition of selected work will take place at the Mall Galleries, London SW1, from April 14 to 23. When: Submission­s close at 12 noon on January 28.

Royal Society of Portrait Painters (RP)

Details: The society invites artists over 18 from all over the world to submit portraits for its annual exhibition. Acceptable media include paintings, drawings and original prints, including digital/ iPad prints. An exhibition of selected work will go on show at the Mall Galleries, London SW1 in May. The John Byrne Award

Details: Establishe­d in 2012 The John Byrne Award is a creative competitio­n, open to anyone over 16 years old living or studying in Scotland. Work can be entered in all discipline­s on any theme or topic. The competitio­n is quarterly, with a year-round exhibition and the chance to win a cash prize of £500. Work can be submitted in any creative discipline, but entries must include a piece of creative work on a chosen theme. St Barbe Museum & Art Gallery Open Exhibition 2022

Details: Now in its 23rd year, anyone can enter up to two works of art, including sculpture and textiles on any theme. An exhibition of selected work will go on show at St. Barbe Museum & Art Gallery, New Street, Lymington, Hampshire SO41 9BH, from April 30 to June 11. When: Online submission­s from March 4 to 20.

Sketch for Survival Introducin­g

Details: Sketch for Survival is a charitable initiative organised by the charity Explorers Against Extinction to help raise awareness about species extinction and habitat loss while also raising vital funds for nominated frontline conservati­on projects through the sale of artworks. The exhibition is free to enter. Full guidelines will be published online from January 1. One hundred artworks are selected from all submission­s to join the Sketch for Survival exhibition tour. In 2021 the tour visited Norwich, London and COP26 in Glasgow.

Sky Arts Portrait Artist of the Year

Details: Entries are now invited to the 2022 Sky Arts Portrait Artist of the Year, Series 9. Artists enter with a self-portrait created within the past five years. They are selected on merit by the panel of judges and proceed to the televised competitio­n heats where they are given four hours to paint a surprise celebrity sitter. Filming takes place at Battersea Arts Centre in March 2022. Full details on how to take the best photograph of your self-portrait are available on the Sky Arts website.

TALPOpen 2022

Details: Organised by The Artist and Leisure Painter in partnershi­p with Patchings Art Centre, the TALPOpen is looking for the best two-dimensiona­l works in any media including drawing, painting, printmakin­g and digital artwork – from amateur painters in the Leisure Painter category and from more experience­d and profession­al artists in The Artist category. Up to 140 selected works – 70 from each category, will be exhibited at Patchings Art Centre in two separate galleries, from July 14 to August 14. Prize awards worth over £13,500 are offered including The Artist Purchase Prize of up to £3,000. When: The submission­s deadline is Thursday April 7, 12 noon.
