Contemporary Flowers in Mixed Media
Soraya French There is so much to like about this impressive volume that it is hard to know where to start. Soraya has a great deal of considerable value to say about colour, pigments and palettes. You might
nd the book worth buying for that alone, even if you’re not a fan of Soraya’s painting style or of working with mixed media.
Colour is at the heart of this and everything else follows, even perhaps composition, because format, shapes and layout serve mainly to underpin the bright, but intricately controlled hues that Soraya uses. What appears to be a wealth of colour is in fact a careful balance of pigments that show each other o magni cently.
As well as demonstrations and examples, there is a comprehensive guide to mediums that include gels, pastes and grounds, all clearly and concisely explained. This is a book that’s a riot of colour, instruction and inspiration. Batsford £19.99, 128 pages (H/B)
