Tranquil Pool, Skelwith Bridge, the Lake District

An intimate look at the landscape has as much to tell as a big scene. Looking at my photograph, above, more closely and having sketched different compositions to see what worked best, I decided to focus more on the central section. It’s important to use the photograph as a starting block, not be a slave to it. As artists we need to put something personal into the work and connect with it, rather than demonstrate pure technical skill with an exact copy
