Refresh your approach
I like a variety of subject matter and I paint whatever attracts me. I even tackled an industrial subject recently – it attracted me because of the shapes and colours, and it was certainly a challenge in terms of perspective and angles. I was even pleased with the result, which is quite unusual for me! Changing medium provides new interest too – my current favourite is oil but recently I have used acrylic, oil pastel and dry pastel.
I recently organised a daily painting session at our club. Everyone had a go at a 6in square format, which was something out of the ordinary for many but I think we all enjoyed it. We all need to refresh ourselves from time to time, to keep the juices owing; maintaining our enthusiasm is more important now, after the recent di cult times we've been through. I recommend the Tips and Techniques section on PaintersOnline, where interesting and inspiring articles can be found, such as 'Reinventing your art' by Max Hale. www.painters-online.co.uk/tips-techniques/ oil/articles/reinventing-your-art/
