FINISHED PAINTING

-

Spring, Rockcliffe, Dumfries and Galloway Coast, gouache on Arches Not watercolour paper, 140lb (300gsm), 111/23111/2in (30330cm). To finish I used the mixes from Stages 3 and 4. In addition, a fairly stiff warm mix of yellow ochre, alizarin crimson and plenty of white were used for the lightest areas of blossom, the foreground flowers and the highlights in the mid-distance. These mid-distant highlights helped to reinforce the focal point, which are the white cottages. A slightly more watery light mix of the above colours was used on an old toothbrush to spatter smaller areas of blossom. Finally, the very small twigs and fence posts were added using cobalt blue, alizarin crimson and a touch of yellow ochre using a No. 2 rigger brush
