MARCO’S TIPS FOR CHARCOAL PORTRAITS
● Work from generic to specific.
● Look at the whole picture, don’t get lost in details.
● Avoid touching the paper with your hands as it might get greasy, use a stick to rest your arm on instead.
● Hold and use the charcoal very gently.
● Keep your charcoals pointed and sharp at all times.
● Squint your eyes to see and divide the light from the shadow.
● Take time to check the drawing from a different perspective.
● Use a kneadable eraser to pick up unwanted darker spots or to lighten an area.
● Slow down, relax and just enjoy what you are doing.
