FINISHED PAINTING
Reflections, Whitby Harbour, gouache, 11½39in (29323cm).
This step was just a continuation of the previous one. A little more consideration was given to the overall appearance of the painting by tidying up the shapes and edges. I added subtle grey/blue marks to the hull of the boat to represent the movement of the water as it bounced up from the surface. Small details like these are vital to capturing the authenticity of the scene. They also add texture to what would otherwise be an uninteresting passage. Finally, my attention was given to details such as the ropes, buoys, and so on. At this stage I was extremely careful not to get carried away with adding too much unnecessary detail
