It was immensely satisfying to turn over and see the finished print but several things became apparent. Firstly, several prints need to be made before the block becomes ‘seasoned’ and is holding a consistent layer of ink, which will produce a dark, even print. Rubbing the back of the print with the barren needs to be methodical and thorough and, finally, the inconsistencies that may be apparent in the print do actually have a certain aesthetic appeal in themselves
