Tips for dry brush techniques
● Practise this technique on old paper before committing it to a watercolour painting.
● Use rough grain paper to get the best results.
● Load the brush with some paint, but ensure it isn’t full of paint. Take off excess paint with kitchen towel.
● Hold the brush on an angle and drag it across the paper. This should leave lines of paint and white areas that will give the impression of texture. This is particularly useful in the foreground of a landscape.
● You can separate the bristles before you begin. This will create more defined brush lines.
