DEMONSTRATION TWO Rock, Trees and Water
For this demonstration I used acrylic inks, watercolour, gouache and soft pastel on watercolour paper. The dramatic landscape setting of Malham Cove in the heart of The Yorkshire Dales National Park brings together the classic landscape combinations of rocks, trees and water in such a dramatic way that I just had to paint them! The stillness and solitude of the scene was inspiring, as the soft mists began to rise and the sun gently bathed the scene in morning light.
A quick analysis of the view revealed the colours I would need to do the captivating scene justice. These included: burnt umber, burnt sienna, lemon yellow, yellow ochre, dioxide purple, indigo, cobalt blue and Prussian blue, which contained just enough green in the colour to have the colour spectrum covered in elements of red, yellow and blue found in my gouache, watercolour and acrylic inks.
