STAGE THREE

-

This shows the completed painting on the beach with the tide coming in. Fortunately, it wasn’t too windy so I was able to paint quickly without the worry of the easel moving or being blown over. I rested the three cover boards on the back of the easel to help weigh it down. Once I was happy with the finished painting, it was time to stop. It’s important not to overwork a picture and ruin it, but to leave the sensation as you originally captured it. I’ve kept going on numerous occasions and regretted it. It’s a great discipline knowing when to stop and comes with experience and practice. Once the painting was finished, I carefully laid the boards over the top and secured them all with masking tape. Carrying the additional boards with the three canvases was a little heavy, but worth it once I’d returned to the car
