Example six – glazing

-

Glazing means painting a layer of paint and letting it dry thoroughly before applying the next layer of paint. The layer underneath then shines through the top layer. This creates depth and interest in your work. Here is a very simple example of how I used watercolour washes as glazes in a painting. I painted a pale blue/grey wash first and then added the foliage shapes when this layer was completely dry. This method of working can be used in numerous ways in skies, still life and abstract paintings
