Next I worked on the eyes and deepened the shadows on the face with Polychromos violet, adding the same colour into the hair for unity. I marked the lights on the face using Prismacolor white, reserving more space for them because I will come back later to shade over the edges and create soft transitions. The upper eyelid always casts a shadow onto the eye itself. This means that you must make those areas darker than the middle of the eye. Using the same brown you drew the eyelashes with, shade gently right under the upper eyelid, making the highlights placed earlier begin to stand out. The white of the eye is never pure white. It’s only the highlights (sparks in the eyes) that must be white. You can shade with a light grey. I shaded the white areas of the eyes with Prismacolor 20 per-cent warm grey.
