Coastal Seascape
STAGE ONE
Using an off-white ground, I drew out a simple seascape using burnt sienna. I then rapidly scrubbed in muted variations of permanent rose and cadmium orange with a worn hog brush, to roughly indicate the cloud structures. This took no longer than five minutes. You don’t need to spend a lot of time on this initial stage, just block in a loose impression
STAGE TWO
I scrubbed in some intense warm and cool colour, with King’s blue and Naples yellow added to the mix, using a No. 8 Rosemary & Co Ivory filbert. Again, spontaneity is the objective here; we don’t want a laboured painting. Some blending was achieved using my fingers
