What will the infrastructure and construction sector look like once the current wave of development is over?
20 years ago, the focus was on the infrastructure industry such as oil and gas, power generation, water desalination, roads and expressways, ports and airports, and the metro. Once the country has improved its level of infrastructure, it will have the opportunity to expand the level of activity in tourism, real estate, international commerce, and manufacturing. The construction sector in Qatar will remain active in the coming years as the increase of activity in these diversified sectors will require more construction projects.
What is your assessment of the new PPP Law and its potential impact on infrastructure development?
The PPP Law will aid in expanding various sectors of the economy and will attract both local and foreign investment in Qatar. Eventually, the private sector will expand further, and this law will aid in expediting the process because it will provide them with the security to explore and target new areas within the market. In addition, there will be room for more competitors in the market.
What is the responsibility of EPC companies in pushing forward environmental development?
Since 1979, HDEC has been progressing to maintain its presence in Qatar and is aiming to do so in the coming future as well. We try to be proactive instead of being reactive, as we foresee an upcoming boom in the oil and gas sector. We will be prepared for any changes in the market.
