Max-André Delannoy
CEO, QATAR INTERNATIONAL CABLES COMPANY (QICC) & GENERAL MANAGER GCC COUNTRIES, NEXANS
How is QICC helping to diversify the country’s energy mix?
Qatar is already a key player in energy transition by providing to the world gas as a substitute for coal or fuel in electricity generation. At the same time, Qatar also aims to harness renewable energy, particularly solar energy. The solar farm project has been named the most competitive solar project in the world due to the use of the most efficient technologies the size of the project and the high-intensity sun exposure. QICC can fully support solar projects leveraging expertise and track record that Nexans gained all over the world in the recent years.
How does QICC benefit from having a 100% local production?
Having 100% local production is key to support the Qatar market, as it provides a great deal of flexibility and responsiveness to projects. Local production also enables to provide effective and efficient logistics services, as there is no need for intermediate storage. We can deliver directly from the plant to the site.
How does the Qatar National Vision self-sufficiency targets impact the cabling sector, and what are your targets in this regard?
We are continuously expanding our portfolio of cables technology solutions and are already addressing the bulk of what is needed from our facilities in Qatar. We have been able to set up our local plant and continuously transfer technology from Europe, thus contributing to self-sufficiency and diversification of Qatar’s economy.
