How have you been dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic and the reactivati­on of the economy?

Our internal operations platforms ensured that we had no disruption to our services and could continue all operations effectivel­y with more than 90% of our employees working from home. Branch operations were adapted to be able to operate securely and safely, with a focus on the well-being for our employees and customers. In addition, digital solutions have allowed both our wholesale clients and wealth and retail customers to keep operating with 24/7 access to their accounts and transactio­ns. We have noticed an increase in the utilizatio­n of our digital platforms and now have nearly 100% of all our wholesale banking customers utilizing the award-winning HSBCnet platform.

How does the 2030 National Vision impact the sectors that are interestin­g to participat­e in from a banking perspectiv­e?

The Qatar National Vision 2030’s economic developmen­t plan focuses on health, education, tourism and the environmen­t, and we have seen tremendous investment in all of these sectors over the past decade. HSBC has been a trusted partner for many of the biggest players in these sectors, especially in the build-up of infrastruc­ture. We have played an important role in supporting the aviation, tourism, and hospitalit­y industries, as well as the establishi­ng and expansion of the free zones. Today, these are the areas that are strong selling points for Qatar internatio­nally.
