Voices from the sector
How have you been dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic and the reactivation of the economy?
Our internal operations platforms ensured that we had no disruption to our services and could continue all operations effectively with more than 90% of our employees working from home. Branch operations were adapted to be able to operate securely and safely, with a focus on the well-being for our employees and customers. In addition, digital solutions have allowed both our wholesale clients and wealth and retail customers to keep operating with 24/7 access to their accounts and transactions. We have noticed an increase in the utilization of our digital platforms and now have nearly 100% of all our wholesale banking customers utilizing the award-winning HSBCnet platform.
How does the 2030 National Vision impact the sectors that are interesting to participate in from a banking perspective?
The Qatar National Vision 2030’s economic development plan focuses on health, education, tourism and the environment, and we have seen tremendous investment in all of these sectors over the past decade. HSBC has been a trusted partner for many of the biggest players in these sectors, especially in the build-up of infrastructure. We have played an important role in supporting the aviation, tourism, and hospitality industries, as well as the establishing and expansion of the free zones. Today, these are the areas that are strong selling points for Qatar internationally.
