Voices from the sector
CEO, NEHMEH
What is your assessment on the industrialization process that Qatar is trying to foster?
This process comes with the development of crucial infrastructure, such as the ports, the airport, the free zones, Manateq, and so on. It brings great opportunities for us. The first is that it gives us more space, so there is not only more space available in the industrial areas, but also cheaper options. It is easier and more attractive to move around, so international companies decide to set up plants and offices and Qatar; subsequently, it is easier for us to deal with them. Having accessible facilities and excellent value for money means we can be better stocked.
How is the government encouraging companies to manufacture and produce here inside the country?
The government, now more than ever, supports the industrial sector, whether it is public or private. Oil and gas are the main sources of income for Qatar. However, they cannot rely only on this because it is detrimental and problematic, especially when the price of oil and gas go down. The government wants to be sustainable, and diversification is therefore the only path. The industrial sector is becoming more important than ever. People talk about 2022, but we are looking beyond that. There are many things that can be done. Qatar is a rich nation and needs sustainable sources of income. That is what diversifies industrial sector brings to a country.
