Marcos de la Cruz GENERAL DIRECTOR, SUE TRANSPORTES
In what ways is the transportation industry in Mexico undergoing a transformation?
At the moment, transportation is in the midst of a transformation. We have to change the business strategy to suit the needs of our customers. As transport providers, we have to identify these new needs, since they are opportunities that we can turn into business. Another thing that is important in this sector is having short-term budgets in order to change them at any time depending on the market. In the case of transportation consumption products is a segment that has remained stable, especially with current and future needs. Last-mile or end-user deliveries have also boomed, and there are positive changes seen there. Furthermore, with the pandemic, online sales have increased tremendously. Today, transportation represents 3.3% of GDP, which is fairly high, but I expect it to be even higher in the next few years.
Why did the company decide to offer services to additional industries?
We are based in Jalisco, and the business started by providing transportation services to the tequila industry. Since we had this business under control and were experiencing sustained growth, we looked for new business alternatives in other segments. We are interested in staying in the specialized scheme, which is part of our business strategy, because it is a less competitive market niche and, in some ways, better paid. We are looking to diversify our business, not depending on only one segment and also taking better care of our strategies and customers. Our growth plan for the next five years is to acquire 300 tractor-trailer units. We also want to divide our business to grow in the food sector and the hydrocarbons market.
