Add a bit of cheer to your sofa with a cute festive cushion! If you have a Cricut™ machine, you'll find it easy to cut intricate shapes in no time. Otherwise, you might find it easier to stick to more simple outlines.

YOU WILL NEED

• Fabric

• Tape measure

• Scissors

• Pins

• Sewing machine or needle and thread • Yarn

• Iron-on vinyl or fabric and bondaweb • iron or Cricut Easypress™

• Embroidery threads

• Embroidery hoop

• Optional: Cricut machine

STEP 1

Cut a piece of 102cm x 43cm fabric.

Find the centre point and add whatever adornment you'd like to the cushion front, making sure your design doesn't extend beyond 30cm square. I chose to cut a design from iron-on vinyl with my Cricut machine and embellish with hand embroidery, but you may prefer to cut a design from fabric that has been attached to bondaweb. I used image #M4188444F from Cricut Design Space™ for my design.

STEP 2

Fold each short end of the fabric towards the back with a double 1.5cm hem and sew in place.

STEP 3

With the right side facing up, fold over each short end so the cushion measures 40cm across. Pin and sew across the top and bottom edges, through all the layers. Turn your cushion right side out and press flat.

STEP 4

Make tassels for each corner by winding yarn around your hand. Tie a piece of yarn around the top to secure it, then cut the bottom loop and sew it onto your cushion. You can add one per corner or make several to add along each edge if you like.

Cricut smart cutting machines allow you to cut, draw, score and more. Available from cricut.com, Hobbycraft, Very, Currys and John Lewis. Check cricut.com for details, offers and inspiration.
