Movie recalled painful memories

-

I’VE just been to see the movie, I, Daniel Blake and I must say that it brought back some rather unpleasant memories.

I suppose I’m luckier than a lot of people as I have not had to depend on the state too much during my life, however, the times I did have to claim back some of my own money from the state was very unpleasant and degrading.

Even back in the 1970s as a single dad I was told that there was no help from the state for single dads and, if I couldn’t manage to work and look after my two children, then the only option would be to place them into care.

Things may be different to some extent these days but it is still a battle to get the help that human beings are entitled to.

Not so long ago, Prime Minister David Cameron famously stated that we are all in it together. So what planet does he live on I wonder? In my opinion, every politician and every peer should be forced to view I, Daniel Blake the movie, and hopefully those greedy, filthy-rich career politicians and those appointed to the House of Lords will come to realise that we are definitely not all in it together.

What I found most infuriating in this movie was that benefits can be stopped on the result of tick box questions by unqualified, untrained so-called health professionals who can override the decisions of real doctors and consultants and deem sick and dying people fit for work.

Something else that really annoys me, and I’ve written many letters on this point, is that we are giving billions away to other countries to alleviate their problems while thousands are suffering at home. ALAN PIPER UKIP councillor
