WHO would want to attack Ken Barlow? Surely he’s not exciting enough to bash about and leave for dead at the bottom of the stairs?
However, that appears to be what has happened, and now the question is: whodunit?
Ken is aghast when DS Mackinnon suggests to him that a member of his family may be responsible, but as the likely culprits – Adam (Ken burned his drugs money and forced him to leave town), Peter (he has many long-standing issues with his dad but would he actually hurt him?) and Tracy (who, let’s face it, is no stranger to a murderous rage) – gather at his bedside, he begins to wonder if she might be right.
But it’s not just his family that may have a motive – surely Phelan could also be under suspicion, after Ken complained he was taking too long to fit their kitchen?
And what about Daniel’s girlfriend, Sinead? Ken advised his son to dump her and take his place at Oxford University instead – a decision that prompted Sinead to seek an abortion.
Eventually, as his recovery gathers pace, the usually plucky pensioner admits he’s frightened to return home.
Meanwhile, his children and grandchildren point the finger at each other, and as Daniel plans to leave town to escape the accusations, the finger of suspicion is pointed at Peter, who needs Chloe to act as his alibi.
Elsewhere, Eileen frightens Phelan while having her first driving lesson, Bethany’s heart looks set to be broken, and Kevin’s finances hit rock bottom.
