AUF WIEDERSEHEN, PET RETURNS FOR SERIES THREE

-

Lee Barratt, who runs the Official Auf Wiedersehen, Pet Fansite recalls: “Who would have thought a sketch at a Sunday For Sammy concert in Newcastle could unite the writing talent and actors after such a long break?

“When news broke in 2001 that the lads were returning for a new series, I couldn’t believe it. For 15 years, I waited - and in 2002 it happened. “

“The BBC were slightly worried fans wouldn’t take the lads back to their hearts, but with viewers peaking at almost 12 million for the first episode, Bridging The Gap, those worries soon faded.

“Back on board were original writers Ian La Frenais and Dick Clement, and Auf Wiedersehen, Pet creator Franc Roddam as executive producer.”

Lee adds: “Series three introduced Auf Wiedersehen, Pet to a whole new legion of fans - a younger generation who would enjoy the fantastic writing and acting once more.”

The show was also a hit with the critics, winning the Most Popular Drama award at the 2002 National Television Awards.

“It’s nice to know the world wants to see six old guys being Brits abroad,” joked Tim Healy at the awards ceremony.

Then, in 2004, came a final fourth series, set in Cuba, and a two-part special, Au Revoir, set in Thailand.

And that really was that for Auf Wiedersehen, Pet! ■■Check out the Official Auf Wiedersehen, Pet Fansite at www. auf-pet.com
