DON’T ASK ME ASK BRITAIN

ITV 8pm

IF you saw someone leave £50 of crisp bank notes in a cashpoint, what would you do? How many affairs do you think are acceptable in a marriage? And should there be another referendum on Scottish independence?

These are the sorts of moral dilemmas and topical questions posed in this new interactive comedy panel show. Viewers are expected to download the app – it’s free – and to cast their vote so their answers can be used for the live programme.

Each week the hour long show sees a different celebrity line-up form a panel, who then have to guess how the nation has answered the burning questions, a bit like Family Fortunes.

Alexander Armstrong – who of course has enjoyed plenty of success with his other smash-hit gameshow Pointless – ably takes on the role of quiz master again for this new six-part series.

Filmed in front of a live studio audience, celebrity captains in the first episode are Jonathan Ross and Frank Skinner. Does Britain really need another game show? Hmm, don’t ask me.

FIRST DATES

Channel 4 10pm

SPRING is in the air, and so too is romance – or at least that’s what Fred Sirieix, the charming French Maître d’ of this returning dating series is hoping, as he opens the doors of the new-look First Dates restaurant.

A fresh batch of hopeful singletons are all seeking lurve, including 20-something toffs Will and Fran, neither of whom have ever had a relationship before. Once you witness their cringe-worthy attempts at flirting, you’ll understand why.

Meanwhile Peter, 48, and Emma, 47, have both been around the block a few times. In fact, they’ve even dated each other before...Horrified, Emma phones her daughter from the ladies to bemoan the coincidence. Would you give a man who dumped you by text, never wears pants, and who oozes lines such as “I’m not a ladies man, but I’m a man that ladies like,” a second chance? Thought not. But like drinking a sparkling glass of wine on a mild spring evening, this show – however contrived at times – still gives you a warm fuzzy glow.
