FOUR OUT OF 10 HOLIDAYMAKERS HAVE HAD POSSESSIONS GO MISSING
FOUR out of 10 UK holidaymakers have lost, or had stolen, an item of value while on holiday, a study from Aviva insurance reveals.
A survey of 2,000 UK adults, who have taken a break in the last two years, found that 18% had lost an important personal possession while on holiday, while 17% had had something stolen.
An unlucky 3% of holidaymakers had experienced both mishaps during their travels.
Wallets, phones and jewellery are among the most common items to be lost or stolen, the research found.
NOMINATE YOUR LOCAL ‘FLOOD HEROES’ FOR £10,000 FUND
AN award to recognise people, community groups and local flood action groups that have helped flood relief efforts has been launched by the Flood Re scheme.
People are being asked to nominate their “local hero” and submit an entry by September 18 – it may be themselves, someone they know or a group that has made a real difference during the toughest times of flooding.
The overall winner will be awarded a £10,000 fund to go towards their local community’s response to flooding or a local flood relief charity of their choice.
Flood Re promotes the affordability and availability of flood insurance for home owners across the UK.
WHY RETIREES SHOULD SHOP AROUND
AROUND 30,000 retirees potentially missed out on thousands of pounds by taking an annuity with their existing provider last year, according to estimates.
Research by the Pensions Policy Institute for insurer LV= found around 30,000 people across the UK potentially missed out on additional income by not shopping around.
In total, it was calculated that they lost out on £130m, which equates to an average £4,000 over the course of their retirement.
