HE’S been brightening up our weekends with his shape-throwing city centre performances.

And it turns out the Monument Mover has quite the following.

We posted a video on our website of the dapper gent entertaining crowds at Grey’s Monument at Saturday afternoon.

And scores of readers rushed to share their admiration for “Matty” – a regular face at Blakelaw & District Social Club – on our Facebook page.

Julie Mann said: “He dances in the Blaklelaw club every weekend.”

While Allan Mckeswick wrote: “This is owld Matty from the club isn’t it, loves a bit boogie doesn’t he.”

And Irene Teasdale said: “MATTY the Monument mover, good on him.”

We captured Matty shaking his stuff to a cover of the Eurythmic’s Sweet Dreams which came courtesy of band Soznak, who were playing outside the Blackett Street entrance to Eldon Square on Saturday afternoon.

And passers by lapped it up, with many getting their phones out to capture some of his impressive footwork.

After we posted our video, Rachel Best commented: “He’s very dapper. Love it!”

David Archer wrote: “Seen him today busting moves to all the tunes. Brilliant. Living life to the fullest.”

While Tracy Johnson simply said: “What a legend.”
