Blyth’s trio all looking Valley good

THE first round of the Team Valley Carpets Amateur Cup was played - with all three Blyth sides progressin­g.

League leaders Spartans Reserves defeated visitors Spittal Rovers 2-0 thanks to goals from Jonathon McGeary and William Cook.

At Blyth FC a counter after just three minutes from Peter Roberts took them through 1-0 against Seghill.

Blyth Town, meanwhile, were involved in a six-goal clash at Willington Quay Saints, eventually progressin­g 4-2.

It was level at the interval, Brandon Needham affording the visitors the lead on the half-hour and Mark Henderson replying minutes later.

However, the match came to life within minutes of the restart.

Sam Watts restored Blyth’s lead before Findlay Rippen levelled just before the hour.

Jack Fortune gave the visitors the advantage on 66 minutes with Chris Lisle sealing the victory for BLyth with 10 minutes remaining.

Bedlington, second in the league, went through with a comfortabl­e 4-1 win at Whitley Sporting Club - four of the game’s five goals arriving in the opening 25 minutes.

Joe Moscrop and Joe Bolam had the visitors two goals up inside 20 minutes, Liam Blyth pulling one back on 21 minutes for the hosts and Dean Simmons restoring the two-goal cushion three minutes later.

Connor Oliver grabbed the visitors’ fourth with a minute of time remaining.

Ross Nicholson struck four times as Winlaton Vulcans romped to a 5-0 home victory over Whitburn.

Dean Hall gave the Vulcans the lead on 13 minutes before Nicholson took over with a firsthalf hat-trick, adding his fourth just before the hour.

Prudhoe Youth Club triumphed 2-1 at Gateshead Redheugh with a counter in each half from Freddy Allen and Matty Robinson, Daniel Curry replying.

Cramlingto­n United had to wait until the closing stages against Wideopen to progess, Niall Younger opening the scoring with five minutes left before Kane Hall, three minutes into stoppage time, sealed the 2-0 result.
