Morpeth are leading the way again

-

MORPETH Town returned to the top of the Ebac Northern League Division One table after an entertaining 3-2 home win against fourth-placed Marske United.

The visitors took the lead when skipper Adam Wheatley put his side in front with a powerful header from close-range.

The lead lasted just nine minutes into the second-half as Liam Henderson produced a sublime strike to put the Highwaymen back on level-terms.

Keith Graydon’s powerful low drive put Morpeth ahead with just 11 minutes left on the clock, but they were pegged back immediately by a goal of the season contender from Craig Gott.

The Seasiders midfielder smashed a stunning 40-yard effort past Karl Dryden and looked to have secured a hard-earned point.

But a night of wonderful goals wasn’t over quite yet.

With four minutes left, Joe Walton produced a fine piece of control before turning and blasting the ball past Robert Dean to secure all three points for his side.

In the Brooks Mileson Memorial Cup First Round, Northern League Division One high-fliers Dunston UTS took almost 83 minutes to break the deadlock against Division Two side West Allotment Celtic. Scott Heslop was the man to finally break down a stubborn Celtic side, as the striker fired his side into the Second Round with a neat finish.

Jack Donaghy was Hebburn Town’s match-winner as they came from two goals behind to beat Division Two rivals Alnwick Town.

Tony Brown’s brace had put the Northumberland outfit two goals ahead at the break, but they were knocked out of the competition when Donaghy put his side ahead in the last two minutes of the game. Willington needed a 4-3 penalty shoot-out win to see off Brandon United in the other all-Division Two clash after the two sides played out a 1-1 draw in normal time.
