Ell of a prize double for ace Slessor

-

WALLSEND’S Elliot Slessor (minus 35) produced a terrific display in the latest of Whitley Bay Snooker Centre’s one-day handicapped pro-am events.

The young potter won the main competition without dropping a frame as well as pocketing the the high break prize.

Slessor’s trio of victories to claim a place in the final came at the expense of North Shields’ former winner Craig Sexton (off 49), Wallsend’s first-time entrant Matthew Wilson (off 56), and Sunderland’s Steven Charters (off 49) - all 3-0 victories.

Facing Slessor in the decider was Fenham’s Daniel Lisowsky.

He had won his way through with a 3-0 defeat of Whitley’s scratch player Adam Parker and a 3-2 deciding-frame victory in the last four over Gateshead’s Brandon Hall - from who he had received a 28-point start.

Now off a 56 start, Lisowsky’s frame scores of 74, 87 and 70 in the first frames of the final looked good enough to win a frame.

However, Slessor’s regular runs in the 30s, 40s and 50s and his higher frame scores of 97, 106 and 115 gave him the match 3-0.

He claimed an extra £10 for his top break of 117 against Matthew Wilson.

Alan Dickinson picked up the Plate award with a 2-0 success over Craig Sexton.

■ ONLY two of the region’s five challengers reached the second round of play-offs for the Dafabet English Open in Barnsley.

After losing the first frame 91-11, Wallsend’s Gary Wilson took the next four frames with runs of 58 and 71 to beat London’s Sean O’Sullivan.

Wilson then won two of the first three frames off Sussex’s Jimmy Robertson - only to lose the next three and the match 4-2 despite making breaks of 62 in both the fifth and sixth frames.

Gateshead’s John Astley had breaks of 51, 54 and 75 on his way to outscoring Pickering’s Paul Davison 4-2 - only to go out in the next round 4-3 to China’s newcomer Yuan Sijun.
