Robins will remain wary of Black Cats

Sports Writer BRISTOL City defender Joe Bryan insists the Robins will not be taking Sunderland for granted when they make the trip to the Stadium of Light tomorrow.

The Black Cats spurned a 3-1 lead to draw 3-3 at Brentford last weekend – and they are now without a league win in 11 games.

Simon Grayson’s side currently sit second bottom of the Championship table and are desperately seeking a win that could revive their fortunes this term.

Conversely, Bristol City arrive on Wearside sitting just outside of the play-off places and will be buoyed by a brilliant 4-1 Carabao Cup win over Premier League side Crystal Palace on Tuesday.

Bryan scored a stunning goal in that game, and while they are confident of securing the win, he knows there is no room for complacency against a ‘dangerous’ Sunderland side.

“I don’t really look at other teams and their form but they have got good players and with any teams in this division – they are dangerous,” Bryan told Bristol City’s official website.

“You can’t go into any game being complacent. We have just come off the back of a 3-0 loss, so we will be right at it and ready to go.

“It takes time to adjust to any league. The style of football is different, the speed is different and the general play is different.

“There is always a bedding in period and it is a transition period for them I suppose.”

Assistant manager Dean Holden is also fearful of Sunderland, describing them as a ‘wounded animal’.

He told City’s official website: “It’s a bit of fear of the wounded animal. We have got to be careful.

“It is a Premier League facility, in terms of the stadium, and we are looking forward to going up there.

“It’s a team who are low on confidence but they have got some dangerous players in forward areas.

“They have got a manager in Simon Grayson who has got multiple promotions into this division, so he knows this division better than most.

“I am sure given time he will turn them around, but the run that they have been on – they are going to get a result at some point – and we need to make sure it is not on Saturday.”
