Aquarium honours Ant and Dec
TWIN BABY MONKEYS ARE NAMED AFTER DUO
Reporter ANT and Dec could soon be monkeying around at a top North East attraction.
However, it is an adorable pair of twin baby marmosets who will be the new draw at the Blue Reef Aquarium in Tynemouth – not their popular TV namesakes.
The monkeys were born at the Tynemouth attraction earlier this month and when it came to naming the twins the aquarium decided to open it up to members of the public.
After careful deliberation there could only be one winner, Julie Charlton on Facebook saying ‘Surely it has to be Ant and Dec.’
Marketing Manager at Blue Reef, Mark Sand, said: “After watching these two interact with each other Ant and Dec seemed like such fitting names.
“They are very entertaining to watch and are rarely seen apart, so there are many comparisons we can draw between these two and the real Ant and Dec.”
Short in stature but big in personality the new additions to Tynemouth’s Aquarium, bosses there hope they will prove as big a draw as the legendary Geordie duo.
These cute new twins are smaller then your hand and are slowly developing their own personalities.
They are native to the Amazon rainforest and only grow to around 30cm tall as adults.
Unlike other monkeys, marmosets almost always give birth to non-identical twins, which are then carried around on their father’s back.
These two are the latest new arrivals after the birth of their brothers earlier in the year.
The new monkeys can be seen at Blue Reef Tynemouth every day and you can find out more about them and the other species of monkeys on display at the daily talk and feed.
