TODAY WE TALK TO SILVERLINE MEMORIES

-

What will you do with this year’s Wish money?

Any money raised through this year’s Wish Fund will be used to purchase chocolate oranges for Santa to give out at our Christmas Tea Dance.

It would be fantastic to make sure that everyone who comes to our Christmas Tea Dance is able to go home with a small gift from Santa.

Tell us about your group.

Silverline Memories has been providing places to go and things to do for people living with dementia in Newcastle since 2013.

The group is governed by six trustees, employs four people and has an additional seven volunteers.

What kind of activities take place at your group?

We offer a wide variety of activities for our members.

This includes – amongst many other things – dementia cafes, tea dances and gardening workshops.

We also offer carer support groups, exercise classes and lunch clubs.

Who is the longest serving member of your group?

We have group members who have been with us since our first day in 2013.

Tell us about the biggest or best activity or event your group has organised.

We arranged a surprise party to celebrate John and Dorothy Thexton’s diamond anniversary.

It was our most recent event and it was wonderful!

The pair took to the dance floor for their official first dance and the story hit national headlines.

What is your group’s proudest moment to date?

Winning the Big Lottery’s People’s Project and taking delivery of the Memory Bus – our own mini bus – which we use to offer day trips for people with dementia.

Why should someone join your group?

We welcome everyone living with a diagnosis of dementia – both individuals and their friends and families. What makes you proud to be from the North East using five words?

The warmth of the people.
