Who will get the icing on the cake?

Final three have done well to get this far, but ony one can take home the Bake Off crown

-

WE started with 12 new bakers, and an almost-entirely new judging and presenting line-up. It was a little tricky to get used to the changes, especially those ad breaks, and there were too many completely weird bakes that nobody wanted to eat, and a bit too much desperation as bosses seemingly tried to make things different and original

Paul continually wanged on about this series being the toughest/best/trickiest/highest standard etc etc – alright mate, we get it, you want to keep your new high-paying overlords happy. But anyway, none of that eventually mattered as we were so happy to have Bake Off back on our screens – that familiar theme tune, tent and welcome cosy feeling – and we all found our favourites (Liam and Yan: never forget).

And now the final three of Steven, Sophie and Kate are battling it out for one last weekend as they bid to be crowned champion. Just three more bakes stand between them and that glass plate. Well, and potentially their own cook book and TV series too.

The signature challenge is to bake a batch of 12 loaves, and three different types means six lots of proving and a myriad of timers. The technical challenge set by Prue involves the kind of icing that would challenge a fine artist. And the final showstopper challenge is to create a stylish and delicious entremet (that’s a super fancy glazed dessert with loads of different bits inside, to you and me.

And it’s also something far more at home on Crème de La Crème than Bake Off, if you ask us.

As the bakers’ families and friends and all the former contestants arrive at the tent for a garden party, the finalists are gathered and Sandi (through sobs) announces the champion.
