Lady Mags are shown no Mersey

-

NEWCASTLE United stay in trouble near the bottom after suffering a 3-0 defeat at Liverpool MF.

Both sides created chances before the deadlock was broken two minutes before the break, the unmarked Nicole Johnston heading home a cross.

Two goals in 60 seconds, 20 minutes into the second period, put the game out of reach for the Lady Mags.

A free-kick from 25 yard by Abby Pope flew in over Grace Donnelly before the hosts scored a brilliant team goal.

Sasha Rowe finished from close range, completing a great one-touch passing move involving eight players – starting with the goalkeeper – which sliced through Newcastle from back to front.

The result keeps the Lady Mags third from bottom, two points off the drop zone.

Chester-le-Street Town suffered a narrow 2-1 defeat at unbeaten Hull City.

The Durham side took an early lead, Nichole Havery on target after 10 minutes, but it would last only two minutes as Ellie Tanser equalised.

The winner came on the hour mark with Katie Thompson netting, keeping Hull (with Liverpool MF) two points off top spot.

Town stay fourth-bottom, two points better off than Newcastle United.

The Lady Mags will again have to wait in their attempt to pull away from the drop zone.

Their next two matches are cup games, starting with a trip to Nottingham Forest on Sunday in the Women’s FA Cup second round.
