CHRISTMAS GOLD Gold, 10pm

CHRISTMAS wouldn’t be Christmas without watching endless classic British sitcoms. So how fortunate that GOLD becomes Christmas GOLD for an entire month, starting tonight. Feast your eyes on all the usual suspects, including various seasonal specials to get you in the festive mood.

A Christmas episode of that love it or loathe it sitcom, Mrs Brown’s Boys, kicks off the action tonight.

Fans will delight in this special that sees Agnes (Brendan O’Caroll) determined to battle various obstacles – Dermot’s in-laws, an errant turkey and lack of snow – to make it a truly special day. And if Mrs Brown makes you want to launch your telly out of the window, fear not, later on there’s the first ever Royle Family Christmas special.

JAMIE AND JIMMY’S FRIDAY NIGHT FEAST Channel 4, 8pm

THIS hybrid foodie celebrity chat show has fast become a Friday night staple. Jamie’s cheeky chappy act might grate on some, but he’s good at getting the atmosphere going in his Southend caff as Jimmy tends to let him do most of the talking.

Through the doors tonight is the fabulous Joanna Lumley, who instantly bursts into a Patsy impression as Jamie offers her some champers. She knows how to win over a crowd. She’s been vegetarian for 45 years, and so the whole show is veggie, just for Lummers. “Oh you are kind,” she gushes.

The actress cooks the King of Malaysia’s favourite dish, while Jamie prepares a M’hanncha – a spiral of filo pastry. And the boys take to the road to champion British fava beans.
