SECRETS OF WAR Yesterday, 7pm

NARRATOR Charles Heston’s voice booming out makes you sit up and pay attention. “They were unlikely heroes who fought behind enemy lines. Many of them paid the ultimate price.”

He’s talking about female spies, who often used only their bravery and cunning to unearth secrets and destroy the morale of the enemy. This is an interestin­g look at the crucial role of women during the World War II (see left) with archive footage and expert interviews.

THE BROKENWOOD MYSTERIES Drama, 8pm

THIS Kiwi crime drama is hugely popular – it’s a bit like the New Zealand version of Midsomer Murders, with endless bizarre deaths .

This time, the owner and curator of Brokenwood’s historic village is killed with an arrow. It sounds like the start of a joke, but could the murderer be the blacksmith, the missionary or the postmaster? Mike (Neill Rea, pictured) and the team wonder if a serial killer is on the loose.

GHOST CHASERS Really, 9pm

MORE supernatur­al scares with Kay Nambier and a dutiful team of investigat­ors (right). In this series finale, they head to the medieval city of Bruges. At a 700-yearold prison, they makes psychic contact with what they believe is an executione­r who once plied his grisly trade there. Next they head to an ancient hospital where they are drawn to the ‘energy’ of monks who succumbed to a plague. But can they capture some hard evidence?

THE INTERVIEWS Yesterday, 10pm

BARRY HUMPHRIES, better known as the wig-wearing, bespectacl­ed, Dame Edna Everage, right, is under the spotlight in this biography series. Dawn French guides us through the life of the Australian entertaine­r, one of the most successful comedians of his era. We see the man behind the frocks, who has led a complex double life. Expect plenty of archive interviews, funny clips and some fabulous anecdotes, Possums.
