SYNCHRO swimmer Sophie Robinson turned in one of the best performanc­es in the country at the National Age Group Synchronis­ed Swimming Championsh­ips in Gloucester.

The Ryton Thorp Academy student (right), representi­ng City of Leeds, swam both duet and team events.

She just missed out on solo glory by 0.2 points.

In the duet she and her partner from Halifax came sixth.

Their total was scored by a combinatio­n of figures and routine scores - and their routine score was the third highest in the country. ■■ENTRY forms are available for the next North Tyneside Social Badminton Tournament at the Parks Leisure Centre in North Shields, on Sunday, Janaury 14 (noon-4.00).

Anyone aged 14 upwards can enter as long as they do not play for a club in county leagues.

Events will comprise ladies and men’s doubles and mixed doubles and entry fees are £5 per person for one event or £8 for two.

Closing date for entries is Monday, January 8 and entry forms can be obtained from leisure centres in North Tyneside, by email at normawfd@ blueyonder.co.uk or by phoning 0191 290 3358. ■■SEATONIANS defeated Wansbeck 44-22 in the North East Regional Netball League’s Under-16 Division. ■■TRIALS are being held to find players who have the potential to play hockey at regional level.

Open to boys aged under 13 on September 1 this year, the trials will be staged at Kingsmeado­w School in Dunston on Saturday, December 16.
