TODAY WE TALK TO KILLINGWORTH YOUNG PEOPLES CLUB

-

What will you do with this year’s Wish money?

The club have recently ran a Wildcats football programme to encourage girls to get involved in the sport with the support of the FA.

We have gone from having no girls football teams to approximately five.

We have also recently started an autism friendly session, as part of our drive for full social inclusion and this has been a resounding success.

Any funds received would be utilised to help purchase training equipment and clothing for those attending the autism sessions. Tell us about your group.

We are a local football club, established in 1980, offering children and adults of all abilities the opportunity to enjoy the sport but also to develop their social skills, in a safe and welcoming environment.

We have seven main committee members, 20 coaches, 500 club members and a further 20 volunteers. What kind of activities take place at your group?

Football and social activities. Who is the longest serving member of your group?

Phil Gibson, since it first started in 1980. Tell us about the biggest or best activity or event your group has organised.

The club holds an annual summer football tournament, with the 2017 event attracting more than 130 teams across two weekends. What is your group’s proudest moment to date?

That’s a really hard question...but we don’t have a specific moment.

We just like to see all our members and those of other clubs simply enjoying playing with other children and their friends. Why should someone join your group?

We offer an inclusive and safe environment for adults and children of all ages, abilities and gender to enjoy the game of football and to socialise. What makes you proud to be from the North East using five words?

The people, place and humour.
