- By MARK CARRUTHERS

A STUNNING first-half display from Northern League Division One leaders Morpeth Town laid the foundations for their impressive 4-1 win at in-form Ashington.

Midfielder Jordan Fry hit a hat-trick in the opening 36 minutes as they took a four-goal lead into the interval, Joe Walton with the Highwaymen’s other goal.

Tony Stephenson bagged a second-half penalty for the hosts but they couldn not prevent Morpeth from extending their lead at the top of the table to 12 points.

Two goals in the last 10 minutes helped Team Northumbria to come from behind to secure a 2-1 victory at Newcastle Benfield.

Jake Orrell had given Benfield the lead on the stroke of halftime but they were left empty-handed after goals from Ben Dibb-Fuller (right) and Scott Gunn gave Team North all three points.

Tow Law Town missed the opportunity to move to the top of Division Two after they were comfortably beaten at Willington.

Conor Winter bagged a brace and Damon Ellis nabbed the other counter in a 3-0 result.

Heaton Stannington striker Jonathan Wright scored a goal in each half as his side moved up to second in the table with a 2-1 home success against West Allotment Celtic.

Jack Pounder registered the only goal of the game as Easington Colliery notched an impressive victory at promotionchasing Hebburn Town.

Thornaby and Billingham Town shared the points with a 1-1 draw at Bedford Terrace. ■■EVO-STIK North leaders South Shields had to settle for a point from their trip to Kendal Town.

The Mariners fell behind on 15 minutes when Kendal striker Anthony Lynch swept the ball past Liam Connell from inside the area.

That goal was cancelled out by a deflected free-kick from Michael Richardson but Shields could not force a winner despite creating a number of chances in the second half.
