Our club gives kids chance to thrive in sport

TODAY WE TALK TO DISTRICT YOUTH ABC

-

What will you do with this year’s Wish money?

We constantly need to purchase approved head guards and boxing gloves to ensure the safety of the children.

At a cost of £90 per guard it is an expensive item. Gloves are in the region of £55 per pair.

Tell us about your group.

The District Youth ABC formed in July 2013. This was a passion grown by club chairman and head coach, Michael Wilson.

Michael not only has a passion for the sport but also a commitment and expectation that he could make a difference to the local community, guiding and supporting local youth.

The membership has grown from three to fifty and there are many championships and aspirational journeys.

What kind of activities take place at your group?

There are lots of boxing and general fitnessrelated activities that take place in our group.

Who is the longest serving member of your group?

We have quite a few long-serving members now but Michael has been a member the longest. He has been the head coach for three years.

Tell us about the biggest or best activity or event your group has organised.

We run sessions five nights a week and in the run up to competitions that is extended to seven days per week.

The extended hours give the kids the best opportunity possible to thrive in the sport.

What is your group’s proudest moment to date?

We have lots of proud moments. We have produced two North East champions and a national Hull Box Cup champion too.

Why should someone join your group?

Boxing is a great sport and if coached correctly is very safe, improves fitness, attitude and behaviour to help kids develop into better role models.

What makes you proud to be from the North East using five words?

Friendly, generous, fun, vibrant, trustworthy.
