Spartans slammed as ‘disgusting’ after a Fer-ly terrible display

- By JEFF BOWRON

ALUN Armstrong was left ‘disgusted’ after his side’s long-awaited return to action saw them lose 1-0 at relegated North Ferriby.

Jordan Cooke’s header on the hour was enough to give the Humbersiders their first home win in the league in a miserable season.

It was only their third in total - and two of them were against Blyth, who were again beaten 1-0 by the Villagers.

It was a lamentable display by Blyth, who now have to bounce back at Salford City, level on points at the top with Harrogate Town, tomorrow night.

Armstrong is in no doubt his side will rise to the occasion at Moor Lane but has questioned their application against the lesser sides.

He said: “The performance at North Ferriby, in one word, was disgusting, and this is our problem.

“When we come to the so-called lesser teams in the league we think we are just going to win the game by turning up.

“We have had too many trainingground internationals this week, brilliant in training but then not performing on the Saturday.

“It is not acceptable. We have missed an opportunity to cement ourselves in the play-offs and playing like that we will not finish in the top seven.

“That would blow away all the hard work we have done and I apologise to the fans who made the trip to Humberside.”

Blyth’s misery was compounded by the loss of star striker Dan Maguire with an ankle injury early in the second half.

Armstrong added: “Dan rolled his ankle and it looked bad. Hopefully he will be ready for Tuesday.”
