Hotter than Barcelona?

EXPERTS PREDICT A WEEK OF WARMTH – AT LAST

- By TOM EDEN Reporter

TEMPERATURES are set to rise each day this week until Thursday when a sunny Newcastle will be warmer than Barcelona, according to Met Office forecasts.

The North East will enjoy the first sustained spell of sunny weather this year thanks to a plume of hot air from Africa, as spring finally looks to have arrived.

The first couple of days of the week will be cloudy, but getting warmer. However, by Wednesday, the sun will have made itself known and temperatures will shoot up to 19C in most parts of the region.

The sunshine will continue into the weekend, so dust off your sunglasses, wipe down your barbecue and enjoy the sunshine.

The Meto Office says today will be mostly cloudy, but with some sunny spells through the afternoon, where temperatures will reach a pleasant 13C. However, there will be some fairly-strong gusts of wind, especially in the early afternoon.

Tomorrow, the sun won’t have many chances to peek through the clouds, but it is likely to be a warmer than Monday, although slightly breezier. There’s a good chance of a shower on Tuesday evening, too. Temperatures are expected to peak at 15C.

By Wednesday, it will be feeling a lot more like spring. We’ll wake up to plenty of sunshine and temperatures reaching a balmy 19C, despite some clouds arriving at midday.

Thursday is the day we’ve all been waiting for. Forecasters are predicting an uninterrupted day of sunshine.

Newcastle is expected to be warmer than Barcelona, with the mercury hitting 21C in the afternoon.

There’s not much wind forecast, either.

The sun will still be shining on Friday, although it will be a few degrees cooler than Thursday. Later on may be a bit cloudy over Newcastle, but elsewhere it should be clear, with the coastal areas feeling much warmer than inland, with Tynemouth expected to still be at 17C into the evening.

You will be able to wake up to more sun at the weekend, unless you sleep in until 1pm, because that’s when some cloud is forecast to arrive. No need to cancel the BBQ however, the sun will soon reappear basking the North East in sunshine for the rest of the day.

Sadly, temperatures won’t reach the giddy heights from earlier in the week, hitting 12C in Newcastle and Durham, but only reaching 10C at the coast and in Northumberland.
