THREE men have been charged with drugs offences following a dramatic armed-police incident on a Tyneside estate.

And three more people are today being questioned in connection with what Northumbria Police has described as an “intelligence operation” in Newbiggin Hall, in Newcastle, on Thursday.

Neighbours spoke of their shock after armed officers descended on Eastgarth at around 9pm.

Police have now revealed that three men have been charged with drugs offences.

Owen Murphy, 46, of Saltcoats, Perthshire, is accused of conspiracy to supply Class A drugs. Brett Miller, 32, of Legion Road, in Denton Burn, Newcastle, has been charged with conspiracy to supply Class A drugs and robbery, and Dale Fowler, 23, of Dilston Drive, in Westerhope, Newcastle, has been charged with conspiracy to supply Class A drugs and robbery.

Three more people were also arrested yesterday and remain in police custody.

A young mum told how she ran out of work after hearing there had been “gun shots” fired just doors away from where her toddler was sleeping. The 24-year-old customer service advisor left the office immediately and drove straight home to Newbiggin Hall to make sure her little girl was safe.

She said: “I was at work and I had frantic phone call off my babysitter. She said ‘You need to come back, something’s happened. But you can’t get into the street’.

“At first I thought something has happened to my little girl. I was really worried. I didn’t have a clue
