Luke’s Don so well, but still a Durham loss

DURHAM Under-17s went down by seven wickets in their opening ECB County Cup clash at Derbyshire.

Durham won the toss and elected to bat - only Adam Khan contributi­ng with 59 from 82 balls while Sol Bell added 20 from 35 balls at No 4.

Alex Rennie (2-18) and Joseph Wilson (2-26) made an impact with the ball for Derbyshire as Durham were all out for 125 in 39.2 overs.

In reply, Matthew Kimmitt fell for nought as Luke Doneathy (pictured right) was in fine form with the ball, bagging 4-24 from seven overs - while Rory Hanley picked up 2-28.

With Durham needing three wickets to win, Derbyshire’s middle-order batsman came to the fore to lead their side home in 32.4 overs.

■■CHESTER-LE-STREET enjoyed a 67-run derby victory over Durham City in the Durham Cricket Board’s Ken Ferguson Memorial Trophy.

After winning the toss, the Ropery Lane side posted 113-6 despite making a bad start at both openers departed for less than 10.

Robbie Dawson, however, scored an unbeaten 51 from 29 balls - including eight fours backed by 20 from Lewis Kilkenny as the Cestrians rounded off their 20 overs.

In reply, City slumped to 46 all out in 15.4 overs, Matthew Page bagging 3-5 from 1.4 overs along with 2-8 from Guy Robson.

Tom Reynolds topscored for City with 19 from 21 balls.

Washington cruised home by five wickets against Sacriston.

Sacriston, who were inserted by Washington, stumbled to 40 all out in 18.2 overs with Alfie McKay top-scoring with 16 from 46 balls.

It was not an easy chase for the Harraton side as Sacriston picked up five wickets - Washington chasing 42 down in 16.3 overs as Cameron Longstaff top-scored with 16 from 39 balls.

Philadelph­ia v Hetton Lyons had to be abandoned due to a player injury while Burnmoor conceded their away fixture at Eppleton.

■■THIRTY-SIX from Logan Barton was not enough for Shotley Bridge to progress in the quarter-finals of the Willis Elliot Tyneside Division Cup.

Barton was the only batsman to contribute as Shotley were bowled out for 71 in 14.4.

Joseph Marshall was the pick of the bowlers with 4-2 - Owen Miller picking up 2-8.

Despite Max Hamilton and Barton both striking, 33 from Owen Miller guided Ryton home in 16.4 overs.

Burnopfiel­d continued their fine form with a 97run hammering of Leadgate.

Tom Bolam led the way with an unbeaten 52 while Mitchell Killeen fell one short of his half-century.

Sam Brown (24) and Joel Selway (21) then finished the job for Burnopfiel­d as they amassed 166-1 in 20 overs.

Leadgate were all out for 69 in their reply as Ewan McCabe top-scored with 25 and Brown, Lumley, McIntosh and Atkinson all struck twice for Burnopfiel­d.

Greenside edged home by 32 runs over Whickham.

■■IN the Don Lyons Memorial Trophy, Hylton, were bowled out for just 17 at Boldon - Jacob McCord (3-1) and Euan Latimer (2-2) doing the damage.

It took just 3.2 overs for Boldon to win.

Sunderland beat Gateshead Fell and South Shields saw off Marsden.
