A CHANCE TO POTTER ABOUT

THE four-star 34-room Lake District property once owned by author Beatrix Potter has undergone a £1m refurbishment.

Lindeth Howe, on a six-acre site in Bowness-on-Windermere, was built as a summer holiday home for a wealthy mill owner in 1879 and rented out by a subsequent owner before the First World War, with guests including the Potter family with Beatrix illustrating Timmy Tiptoes and Pigling Bland while staying there.

In 1915, after the death of her father, she bought Lindeth Howe for her mother, selling it 18 years later after she died.

The building was converted to a hotel in 1983 and the new features include a tea room for weddings and conferences, a makeover for the lounges and bar, and locally handmade wardrobes in the rooms.

Rates start at £125 a night for room only. See lindeth-howe.co.uk to book.
