POPULAR County Durham YouTuber John Bain, aka Totalbiscuit, has died at the age of 33.

The computer games critic and commentator has more than 2.2 million subscribers to his channel on the video sharing website.

He announced he had terminal bowel cancer in 2015 and earlier this month said he was retiring from games criticism because of his failing health. John, from Spennymoor, was diagnosed with the disease in 2014.

He did go into remission, but the cancer returned and spread to his liver and spine.

His wife, Genna Bain, posted a touching poem in tribute to her husband on Twitter.

She also wrote: “Please forgive my lack of response to every message at this time.

“I’m more overwhelmed with grief than I could possibly express.

“Friends/family, please know that I will notify you all of any memorial service planned for John.”

John became an online sensation for his no-nonsense reviews of new indie games with a “love him or hate him” personality.

He was a top Steam game curator, the platform for buying new PC games, and he also hosted a gaming podcast.

TotalBiscuit won numerous awards, including Fan’s Choice at The Game Awards in 2014, and won a 2012 Battle Royale, donating his winnings to charity.
