Hew Emerging as a real talent

ENGLAND Women continued their preparatio­n for their summer T20 Series with two T20 games against Durham Emerging Players at Loughborou­gh University.

In the opening game Durham were well beaten by five wickets as England chased 131 to win in a recalculat­ed target.

Tom Hewison top-scored with 30 from 41 balls while Jame Dass added 14 from 24 balls.

Anya Shrubsole bowled tightly for England with 3-2 from two overs while Laura Marsh bagged 2-14 from four overs.

Brunt, Gunn, Sciver and Eccelstone all picked up one each.

The England top order led the way - Tasmin Beaumont top-scoring with 32 as Heather Knight’s side chased 131 down with two balls to spare.

Hewison (3-19) was the pick of the bowlers for Durham.

In the second T20, Durham claimed the victory by six wickets chasing 140 to win.

Hewison was Durham’s top man with a 30- ball 58 - including nine fours and two sixes.

Fran Wilson top-scored with an unbeaten 32 from 34 balls including three fours - while Georgia Elwiss added 28 backed by 22 from Amy Jones.

Harry Pierson (2-12) and Alex Smith (2-17) both struck for Durham while Adam Ahmed and Helen Fenby bagged one each.

Hewison’s 50 was backed by an unbeaten 29 from Angus Guy along with 21 from Adam Khan and 20 from Ami Campbell.

Elwiss (2-20) struck along with one wicket each for Kate Cross and Durham’s Danielle Hazell.

THREE wickets for 38 runs for Will Barnham enabled Durham Under-15s to edge home by 16 runs against Durham School.

After winning the toss, Durham posted a respectabl­e 194-7 from 40 overs as Atticus Garlick smashed 43 from 48 balls - including five fours - backed by an unbeaten 34 from Isaac Unsworth.

Tom Bolam (29) and Lucas Parry (24) contribute­d in Durham’s innings. Jenson Hibbitts (2-26) and Leo Giacomelli (2-30) both struck for the school side.

Tom Reynolds was dismissed first ball - but 63 from Jack Stephenson and 57 from Niall Buttler had Durham School in control.

However, both fell in succession as Durham School struggled to attain 176-7.

Barnham was the key man in Durham’s bowling attack while Ben Pentland bagged 2-15.

DURHAM’S under-15 girls started their ECB County Cup campaign with an eight-wicket win over Cheshire at Sacriston.

Durham inserted Cheshire, who slipped to 104 all out thanks to tight bowling from Jessica Woolston (2-3), Ella Tomys (2-14) and Erica Denyer 3-16.

Durham chased down Cheshire’s total in 22.3 overs as Madeline Atkinson hit 38 from 76 balls.

She was given solid support with 32 from Holly Spoors.
