Smith hits 50 as Cestrians a Street ahead of Washington

BEN Smith (50 in 33 balls) and Aaradhya Tiwari (50 in 40 balls) both retired as Chester-le-Street proved too strong in an 146-run victory over Washington, writes SAM BLACKLOCK.

Washington won the toss and inserted the hosts, who totalled 186-4 in 20 overs as Taylor Farrington added 23 along with 20 from Lewis Kilkenny.

Harvey Day top-scored for Washington with 13 as no other batsman managed double figures, the Wearsiders 40-8 after 20 overs.

Robson and Smith both struck twice for the Ropery Lane side.

Hetton Lyons lost at South Shields. Shields batted first and despite a slow start reached 84-8 from their 20 overs.

Alex Thompson top-scored with 26 not out, supported by Jack Carr (15) and Ewan Jenkins (12).

Josh Bell took three wickets for 13 runs for the visitors.

In reply, the Lyons batsmen struggled against the South Shields bowling attack - reaching 68-7.

Matthew Sheppard was the pick of the South Shields bowlers with 4-15.

Ben McKinney and Joe Weightman top-scored for the visitors with 20 and 19 respective­ly. ■■SHOTLEY Bridge edged home by six runs against Lanchester in the DCB Under-15 League Tyneside Division.

Batting first, the home side posted 95-8 from 20 overs as Logan Barton top-scored with 46.

Extrasled the way for Lanchester as no batsman really got going in their run chase, Tom Slane bagging 3-23.
